Thanks, RebeccaR! It's a wonder you could even find your wireless adaptor in all that mess. :O

Buried on the "Company" page, under "Policies & Procedures" heading at www.linksys.com, you will find this little note:

Environmental Statement

Linksys strives to provide customers with high quality products that minimize impact to the environment. Linksys works with its partners to produce products that are in compliance with relevant environmental legislation and regulations. In addition, Linksys desires to meet additional customer and community environmental needs and expectations in the global marketplace whenever feasible. Linksys also endeavors to conduct business in an environmentally friendly manner. Linksys has numerous projects underway that will reduce the company's overall carbon footprint by minimizing travel, optimizing our product supply chain, and communicating opportunities for conservation and recycling to the general employee base."

Maybe, whilst they communicate all the opportunites for conservation and recycling to their employees, they might reap a little of what they sow, and stop sending 800 pieces of unnecessary packaging out with each and every teeny product they manufacture?!

Ok, I will give them the benefit of the doubt here....and ASK THEM! We'll pop them off an email to get their thoughts on the matter, and we'll give you their message of earth-friendliness here, once we hear back from them.

Well, part of their slogan is "Expect More." Maybe that is what they mean by "more"...more cardboard- so that when the economy gets worse, you will be happy that you also made a real estate investment at Target.com along with that DVD player! You'll have to locate your own electrician to get it wired though.

I've found a HUGE amount of accolades Target has listed on their site in regards to their environmental protection, so much so that I've decided to link the page here rather than C&P it all:
http://sites.target.com/site/en/corporate/page.jsp;jsessionid=Z1LC2QRKUXSY5LARAAVPYAA?contentId=PRD03-001095

I'll quote a couple highlights though...

"Through our comprehensive recycling and reuse programs, we've cut our waste by 70%."

Yikes! Makes you wonder what else is in that other 30%.

"In 2006, Target...
- Recycled 911.1 million pounds of cardboard, the largest portion by weight of our recycled materials."

Ok, so if they did all this 'recycling', did they just send it all to your house and call it a day?! ;)

We're on the case again! Target will be notified of this oversight in their "green" methods, and they'll be given the opportunity to respond to it. We'll let you know what they have to say for themselves in this case.

Regards,

Not to make this even more complicated, but what about the idea that not having a tray could possibly have the side effect of reduced food consumption?

I remember in college that people would leave uneaten food and drinks on their trays all the time, because it was easy to pile in on in the first place, and they'd like to avoid a second trip!

unbelievable! The amount of useless packaging is ridiculous. Is there a link here for us to complain to someone who might be able to do something about it?

What about a list of companies who package responsibly who we could give our business to?

It really gets me when one aspect is "green" but another completely overrides any environmental benefit... such as making unnecessary packaging from recycled plastic. How about no plastic?
Green is really just a word anyway, and I think that saying they are committed to becoming green (when possible) is just a marketing ploy. There are no specifications to enforce, no "green" certifications, just their word that they are becoming "Greener," whatever that means.
